good fic in the offing!!

I was only made aware of raremaleslashex like last night, but I'm really excited about it! 

I was too late to sign up, but that's fine, since I'm in a bit of a writing fallow season at the moment anyway. But I just went through the tagset, which is looking fantastic.

So many fandoms I enjoy are on there; list below the cut (this is like a really telling look at who I am as a person also lmfao):

• The Terror has been nominated with 20 (!) different ships
• Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell has several Strange ships and a couple of Childermass ships
• Ravenous - Hart/Ives
• Conclave - Bellini/Lawrence
• Granada!Sherlock Holmes - Holmes/Watson/Lestrade
• Poirot (TV) - Poirot/Hastings and Poirot/Japp
• The Great Mouse Detective (!) - Basil/Dawson
• Raffles - Bunny/Raffles
• Several Classic Doctor Who pairings (this made me very happy since I think individual incarnation ships would not be permitted in, say, Yuletide, despite being effectively different characters): Five/Ainley, Eight/Roberts!Master and Three/Delgado Master are all on the list
• Lawrence of Arabia - Lawrence/Ali
• Master and Commander and the Aubreyad - Jack/Stephen
• The Mummy has one (1) ship nominated and it's Ardeth Bey/Jonathan Carnahan, which is exactly what I hoped it would be, and I hope that gets a fic because the whole concept is so perfect

Some real surprise noms: I would never have guessed that Raffles/Bunny and Aubrey/Maturin had less than 200 fics on ao3, but the latter is nominated for both the books and the movie! Feels fake.

This is really promising; I'm gonna have to remember to keep an eye out for this when the works drop at the end of August.

I enjoy seeing this/your list! My cheers for: Ardeth Bey/Jonathan Carnahan, Bellini/Lawrence, and Hart/Ives-- wow, that last one is really an old flame, haha.

Omg, I love that Ravenous is old hat to you -- I only saw the movie maybe 2-3 years ago in the The Terror server I mod, since the two share common themes, and I'd never even heard of it before that. I really enjoyed it!

Haha, better late than never! It's a wonderfully paced thing with stellar actors, also very, very gay. :D I see how there would be common themes... haven't seen the show yet, but I really liked the book!

Yeah!! And the adaptation made some conscious changes in terms of tone, so the show is built very much around the themes of colonisation and imperialism, europeans stretching their influence into places where it doesn't belong and coming into contact with the supernatural forces that live there, which is a nice parallel between the two. And the cannibalism, of course. :D I won't spoil details, but the character of Hickey in the Terror show has some parallels with Ives.

I do like the idea of Ardeth Bey/Jonathan. That could be very good. And aw Basil/Dawson. I have written a bit of Raffles/Bunny myself. That' will be interesting too.

Oh, that's so cool! I devoured a bunch of the Raffles stories about a decade ago but I never did get round to reading all of them. I should do that sometime!

I'll be crossing my fingers that these fandoms/pairings end up getting requested and written!!

Shame that you found out too late to join, but yes! Definitely look out for the collection once it reveals! RMSE is the best exchange of the year for m/m for old fandoms, book fandoms, and old book fandoms. ;)

I'm really glad I found it! I keep up kindasorta with yuletide, but I was especially really pleased that there's another large fic exchange that permits individual Doctor/Master pairings, since I think for Yuletide they take it all as one, so it isn't eligible! Hopefully I can join next year. 😌

Raffles/Bunny is only just still eligible—I remember seeing it last year or the year before and thinking it probably wouldn't have much longer in this exchange, then being surprised when it was in again this year!

Ohh, I see. Yeah, I had a look at their ao3 offerings a while back, but I haven't checked again since. I may have gotten the impression it was a bigger ship because there's a certain amount of bias in my online circle :D

They're so lovely! Not a huge amount of fic, at least for Poirot, so I'm excited whenever anything pops up.

I tried to write a Jeeves and Bertie meet Suchet!Poirot fic but mystery plots are hard to write.
